Meaning：意味

Momiji-gari, or leaf peeping, is one of the seasonal events in Japan from the old days.
「紅葉狩り」は日本古来の季節の行事の一つです。

The word momiji-gari is composed of momiji, Japanese maple, and gari, whose original pronunciation is kari.
「紅葉狩り」という言葉は、モミジつまりイロハモミジと、本来の発音は「かり」である「がり」から構成されています。

The Japanese word momiji refers not only to Japanese maple, but also to trees with leaves that turn into various autumn colors.
「もみじ」という言葉は、イロハモミジだけでなく、いろいろな秋の色に葉が紅葉（こうよう）した木々も意味します。

Today, the word kari means hunting. However, in ancient days it also meant going out to the countryside to pick seasonal harvests or to see particular plants.
「かり」という語は、現代では狩猟を意味しますが、古代には季節の収穫物を採るため、または特定の植物を見るために、野山へ行くことも指しました。

Nowadays, when we say, “momiji-gari,” the old meaning of kari remains.
今では、「紅葉狩り」という時に、「かり」の古い意味が残っています。

Momiji-gari mostly means a small trip to see hills and fields with autumn colors.

Many restaurants and cafés offer special menus which feature seasonal delicacies in the fall.
